A Call To Protect Tourism Sites Amidst Protest As Global Tourism Promoter Amb. Phil Roberts Of Tourism Volunteers Network Embarks On Nationwide Tour To Promote Peaceful Protests And Protect Tourism Attractions

In a bid to manage the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests and protect Nigeria’s tourism attractions, Amb. Phil Roberts, Executive Director of Tourism Volunteers Network, has embarked on a nationwide tour today the 1st of August 2024 The tour, which kicked off in Abuja Amidst high security tensions aims to engage with protesters, tourism volunteers, and stakeholders to promote peaceful demonstrations and safeguard tourism sites.

Amb. Roberts made his first stop in Nassarawa State, where he met with tourism volunteers and students of Nassarawa State University. He emphasized the importance of protecting Nigeria’s tourism attractions, noting that the country’s rich cultural heritage is a source of pride and a key driver of economic growth.

Speaking with news men in Nassarawa state Amb.PhilRoberts said “We understand that people are angry and frustrated, but we must not allow our emotions to get the better of us,” Amb. Roberts said. “We must find ways to express our grievances without destroying our tourism attractions. These sites are not just important for tourism but also for our cultural identity and national pride.”

Amb. Roberts also highlighted the need for protesters to be mindful of the potential consequences of their actions. “While we have the right to protest, Let us work together to find peaceful solutions to our problems and protect our tourism attractions for future generations.”

The Executive Director of Tourism Volunteers Network is expected to visit Jos, Plateau State, and Kano State, among other destinations, to engage with tourism volunteers and stakeholders. He is also virtually communicating with tourism volunteers across the country to educate angry Nigerians on the importance of protecting tourism attractions while protesting.

This nationwide tour comes on the heels of Amb. Roberts’ successful 30-day visit to various tourism sites across Nigeria, dubbed the “Tourism Across the Niger” project. The project aimed to promote Nigeria’s tourism potential and engage with local communities to develop sustainable tourism practices.”
